Positive Young Men at Shadow Rock Center

Positive Young Men, a program developed by Mr. Darrick Barnes, and also commonly known as “PYM,” is a mentoring program that provides young male students with fun and engaging mentor relationships aimed at broadening their social and behavioral experiences. The goal of PYM is to teach, share, and demonstrate positive principles to the participants, and encourage them to achieve daily, monthly, and long-term goals as responsible and productive students.

The PYM mentoring activities are as varied as the mentors and students involved in the program. Some activities include games aimed at teaching positive conflict resolution skills and how to relate well with others, and brainstorming sessions to discuss the pros and cons of making "good" or "bad" decisions, all while improving self-confidence and awareness.

PYM is constantly developing creative ways to introduce the students to new situations and resources, so they can better themselves, avoid risky behavior and achieve educational success. PYM envisions an environment where all children are exposed to experiences and tools that will enable them to achieve success in life.
